Wastra Wonderland: Where Threads and Art Converge

Nusa Dua, Bali, October 30th, 2023 - Wastra Wonderland, an extraordinary event celebrating Indonesia's cultural heritage through traditional fabric exhibitions, a fashion show, and a food bazaar, concluded successfully, drawing a diverse and enthusiastic crowd. The event held from October 28th to 29th, 2023 at Ja’Jan Bistro and Main Garden of Merusaka Nusa Dua.

Wastra Wonderland commenced with a welcoming address by Mr. Ian McD. Cameron, General Manager of Merusaka Nusa Dua followed by a Sekar Jagad dance performance. The event was graced by the presence of prominent figures from the government offices of Bali Province, including the Head of Bali Tourism Department – Mr. Tjok Bagus Pemayun, Mrs. Sugiarti representing the Department of Industry and Trade, the Vice Chairman of ASITA Bali – Mr. I Ketut John Purna, the Executive Director of Indonesia Hotels and Restaurant Association (PHRI) Bali - Ida Bagus Purwa Sidemen, Mr. Kompol I Nyoman Karang Adiputra SH - the Chief of South Kuta Police Department, and Mr. I Gusti Ngurah Ardita - the General Manager of ITDC Nusa Dua.

The Head of Bali Tourism Department and the General Manager of ITDC Nusa Dua also expressed their appreciation for Merusaka Nusa Dua's efforts in preserving Indonesia's cultural heritage and supporting local craftsmen in showcasing their exquisite traditional fabrics to the world. 

The captivating cultural heritage exhibition showcased a rich variety of handwoven fabrics, each of which represented the unique identity of its region. These included Endek from Bali, tenun from Sumba, and batik from Java, among others. Notable exhibitors included Agung Bali Collection, Tenun Bali Laris, Nusa Dua Endek, Tenun Alus Maura, Manamu Handwoven, Rihi Eti Tenun Ikat Sumba, Rambu Chiko Ikat Sumba, Batik Losari, Me Alvernia, Mavee Batik, and Rancak Collection. The event also featured beautifully crafted leather handbags and accessories by Ernov and elegant pearl jewelry by Mulyadi Mutiara Lombok. The journey continued with a fashion show, showcasing traditional Indonesian fabrics with stunning clothing and accessories for kids and young adults.

 
Visitors indulged in a delectable food bazaar, took part in engaging quizzes and lucky draws, while enjoying outdoor dining in the beautiful main garden accompanied by a lively music by our DJ. Exhibitors from Sumba, Bali and Java regions shared their expertise on the rich history and intricate designs of their products.
